TEA - Dyslexia
PCRC provides tutoring and remediation services for
students K - 12 who possess dyslexic
characteristics. Tutors are specially trained to
help students not only to achieve academic
milestones but, developmental milestones as well.
The program is offered Monday - Thursday from 3 p.m.
- 6 p.m. during the school year. During the summer,
the program is offered Monday - Friday 10 a.m. - 4
p.m.
Supplemental Educational Services
Recently, PCRC was approved by the Kentucky
Department of Education as one of only forty-four
Supplemental Educational Service providers state
wide. "Supplemental
Educational Services" is defined by the United
States Department of Education as tutoring or extra
help provided to students in reading,
English/language arts, and math. The No Child Left
Behind Act states that these services must be of
high quality, research-based, and specifically
designed to increase the academic achievement of
eligible children. Eligible students K - 9 must
attend Title I (Tier 2) schools (e.g. Atkinson
Elementary, Maupin Elementary, Portland Elementary,
Semple Elementary, Knight Middle, Noe Middle, Stuart
Middle, Western Middle, Central High, Shawnee High,
and Western High).
During the 2006-2007 school year, the program will
be offered Monday - Friday from 2:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.
and 10:00 a.m. - 6 p.m. on days school is not in
session, including holiday breaks. During the
summer, the program will be offered for 9 weeks,
Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Community Juvenile Justice
Partnership Grant Program
PCRC recently was awarded a grant from the Kentucky Department of
Juvenile Justice
Community Juvenile Justice Partnership Grant Program
(CJJPG), in part to
increase the academic proficiency of students ages 6
- 15 in the areas of reading, English/language arts,
and math. 75% of the youth participating in
tutoring and remediation services will improve their
academic proficiency by at least one letter grade.
For schools that do not use letter grades, the youth
will progress from Little Progress-LP to
Progressing with Help-PH or Steady
Progress-SP.
PCRC will utilize PLATO Learning’s Assessment and
Instructional Solutions to provide tutoring and
remediation services in the areas of reading,
English/language arts, and math. PLATO Learning’s
Assessment and Instructional Solutions are
state-of-the art web based solutions designed to
increase student academic proficiency,
especially among those at risk of educational
failure.

MAP (a cognitive-behavioral program) - As part of
the (CJJPG), PCRC will target students ages 8 - 15
that had 7 or more absences during the previous
school year and/or demonstrate aggressive or
anti-social behaviors and enroll them in MAP. MAP
is designed to help young people identify and change
dysfunctional beliefs, thoughts, and patterns of
behavior that contribute to problem behavior.

Parent Education Program - Furthermore, as part of
the (CJJPG), PCRC will target parents of students
ages 6 - 15 that had 7 or more absences during the
previous school year and enroll them in the Parent
Education Program. The Parent Education Program is
designed to address poor family management practices
that can lead to truancy. PCRC will implement an
eight week program using the Raising Resilient
Children curriculum and companion videos.
