United Parcel Service and 15th
to 17th Street Neighborhood Block Watch
Association
The Community
Newsletter Project is a component of an intensive Youth
Leadership and Community Service program designed to
integrate youth into neighborhood development work. A
team of professionals from UPS’s The Link Up Letter are
equipping our youth ages 14 -18 representing the Russell
neighborhood with the skills required to publish a
community newsletter. The West Louisville Advocate, the
name given to the community newsletter will be published
and distributed quarterly and focus on stories and
issues of interest to the residents of Russell. The
15th to 17th Street Neighborhood Block Watch Association
is another partner committed to this endeavor.
Louisville Fire Youth Football and
Cheerleaders Cluster
We have entered
into a partnership with the Louisville Fire Youth
Football and Cheerleaders Cluster. This partnership
will ultimately increase the number of families and
youth referred to the programs and services provided by
Plymouth Community Renewal Center. It will also provide
our youth the opportunity to play football and become
cheerleaders.
GE Elfun Volunteers - Louisville Chapter
On May 20, 2005, 60 volunteers from the Louisville
Chapter of GE Elfun Volunteers converged upon Plymouth
Community Renewal Center to tackle much needed
restoration and repair work to the building façade,
stairs, recreation facility and bathrooms. This
partnership also served as a opportunity for the Out of
Bounds youth to do simple acts of community service by
assisting the GE Volunteers with this undertaking.
Special recognition is extended to some of the other sponsors
and suppliers in this effort:
-
Ingersol-Rand and Willis Klein for the repairs to the front doors
-
Awning provided and installed by Bluegrass Awning Company
-
Paint and supplies from Porter Paints and The Home
Depot
Central High School
Working with
representatives from Central High School we reinstated
the MAP program the 2005/2006 school year. During the
2001/2002 school year the program was implemented at the
school and all incoming freshmen completed the program.
The program assists incoming freshmen with the difficult
transition from middle school to high school.
